    Full-body Safety Harness

    1. Basic Definition

A full-body safety harness is a critical personal fall protection equipment (PPE) designed to secure a worker’s torso, shoulders, legs and chest as a complete restraint system, widely used for fall arrest, work positioning, suspension and confined space rescue in high-altitude operations.

    2. Core Structure & Key Components

    1. Shoulder straps: Two symmetric webbing loops wrapping over both shoulders to distribute impact force evenly.
    2. Chest strap: Crosses the upper chest to prevent the harness from sliding upward around the neck during a fall.
    3. Leg straps: Loops encircling each thigh to stop the wearer from slipping out of the harness when suspended mid-air.
    4. D-ring (Anchor D-ring): Metal connection point (usually on upper back/shoulder area) to link lanyards, fall arresters or safety ropes; side D-rings are for work positioning.
    5. Adjustable buckles: Quick-release or pass-through buckles to resize webbing for different body sizes.
    6. Waist belt (optional): Extra padded waist band for load bearing during climbing or fixed-position work.

    3. Main Functions

    • Fall Arrest: Absorb shock and catch users instantly if an accidental fall occurs, limiting free-fall distance and preventing fatal injuries.
    • Work Positioning: Fasten workers to fixed anchor points so they can work with both hands free at height.
    • Rescue Suspension: Enable safe hoisting or lowering of injured personnel from elevated or enclosed spaces.

    4. Common Application Scenarios

It is mandatory PPE across multiple industries: construction, tower maintenance (telecom/wind turbine), roofing, oil & gas, shipbuilding, window cleaning and confined-space engineering.

    5. Material & Safety Standards

    • Most harness webbing is made of high-strength polyester or nylon webbing, featuring strong tensile resistance, wear and UV resistance.
    • Certified products comply with global safety codes such as ANSI Z359 (USA), EN 361 (European standard for fall arrest harnesses), GB standards (China).

    6. Usage Notes

Inspect the harness for frayed webbing, cracked metal hardware or damaged stitching before every use; retire the product immediately after a fall impact or severe abrasion damage.
