Description
Permanent Magnetic Lifter: Introduction, Structure, Working Principle and Applications
A permanent magnetic lifter is a compact, high‑efficiency lifting device that uses permanent magnetism to absorb and transport ferromagnetic materials such as steel plates, steel ingots, iron blocks and mechanical parts. It is widely used in factories, steel yards, machining workshops and logistics industries for safe and convenient material handling without external power supply.
Basic Structure
A typical permanent magnetic lifter consists of three main parts. First is the magnetic core assembly made of high‑performance permanent magnet materials such as neodymium‑iron‑boron, which provides strong and stable magnetic force. Second is the switch handle and internal magnetic circuit control mechanism, used to turn the magnetic force on or off by rotating the handle. Third is the heavy‑duty lifting shackle and shell, which bear lifting loads and protect internal components from damage.
Working Principle
Different from electromagnetic lifters that need electricity, permanent magnetic lifters rely on the superposition and separation of internal magnetic circuits. When the handle is switched to the “ON” position, the magnetic field passes through the bottom surface of the lifter to form a closed loop with the workpiece, generating strong adsorption force. When the handle is turned to the “OFF” position, the internal magnetic circuit is offset, and almost no magnetism remains on the surface, so the workpiece can be released safely. It does not require power cables, batteries or charging, and can work continuously once manufactured.
Main Advantages
First, no power required, which avoids risks such as power failure and electric leakage, greatly improving safety. Second, small size and light weight make it easy to carry and operate by one person. Third, strong magnetic force, stable adsorption and long service life; high‑quality models can be used for decades. Fourth, simple maintenance with low cost, as there are no wearing parts that need frequent replacement. Fifth, it can adapt to high‑temperature, dusty and humid working environments.
Precautions for Use
Operators must follow safety rules strictly. The lifter can only lift carbon steel, low‑alloy steel and other ferromagnetic objects; it cannot lift stainless steel, aluminum or copper. The actual lifting capacity must not exceed the rated load. Before use, check for cracks, wear and handle flexibility. When lifting, ensure full contact between the bottom surface and the workpiece. Do not stand under suspended loads during operation.
Typical Applications
Permanent magnetic lifters are mainly used for lifting steel plates, round steel, steel pipes and forgings in steel mills and metal processing plants. They are applied in machinery workshops for loading and unloading molds and parts. Logistics and storage yards use them for stacking and transferring steel materials. They are also common in construction sites and shipbuilding industries for small‑scale steel component handling.
Comparison with Electromagnetic Lifters
Electromagnetic lifters need continuous power supply and have high power consumption, while permanent magnetic lifters are power‑free and safer in case of sudden power cuts. Permanent magnetic lifters are more suitable for small‑tonnage, flexible lifting tasks, whereas electromagnetic lifters are usually used for large‑tonnage, long‑time continuous heavy‑duty lifting.
